Let’s BUMP the other teams to score points!

BUMP is a No Prep AP Biology review game where students bump other teams off the platform to score points based on how quickly they answer questions correctly!

The game is playable with the whole class together, or you can play it in small groups. All questions and answers are included.

This version is:
School Level: High School
Subject: AP Biology
Unit: Ecology & Ecosystems
Mini-Unit: Population Ecology
Topic: Population Growth Patterns
Topic Description: Compare exponential and logistic growth and predict population trends based on resource availability.

It is a digital resource. No printouts are required. All questions and answers use text and mathematical notation (formulas), and there are no diagrams, maps, charts, graphics, or visual aids.

While we provide a correct answer for every question, teachers should consider that students may provide a different answer that is correct and use their discretion.

How It Works

  • The game runs entirely on PowerPoint and also works great in Google Slides. You can replace the questions and answers if you like by deleting the existing content and typing into the white text boxes.
  • Make 3 teams or more, and set up a desk with a shooting position about 5 feet away.
  • Go to the first question.
  • All teams race to write down their answer on paper and then raise their hand when done.
  • Once all teams have answered, check against the correct answer, which is shown on the following slide.
  • All teams that got the answer correct get one shot to score points.
  • Wrong answers get no shots.
  • The last team to answer correctly shoots first, followed by the other teams, and the first team to answer correctly shoots last.
  • If the ball of paper lands on the desk, the team gets 1 point.
  • They can get an additional 2 points for every other team they bump off the desk.
  • Keep score on the board.
  • Repeat until all 20 questions have been asked.
  • Questions vary in difficulty, and the answer is provided after each question.

The Game Will Run On

  • iPads running PowerPoint or Google Slides (free apps)
  • Smartboards
  • Projectors
  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Any device that runs PowerPoint or Google Slides

This game can be played together as a class using a smartboard or projector, or by individuals and small groups on iPads or computers running PowerPoint or Google Slides.
