Explore 7 Determining Net Income review games designed by a teacher to engage students and reinforce curriculum. Give students a break from worksheets and bring Math review to life with a classroom game.
- The TERRIBLE Game rewards correct answers with positive or negative points that students can strategically assign to their own team or their opponents.
- SCOOT combines review with movement as students rotate between desks and work their way through a set of topic-specific task cards.
- TRASHKETBALL™ mixes fast-paced question review with a classroom shooting competition where correct answers earn shots for points.
- The BIG TERRIBLE Game gets up to eight teams answering every question while unpredictable positive and negative points keep everyone guessing until the end.
- FRAZZLED turns review into an unpredictable competition where teams win points, lose points, steal points, and try to avoid the dreaded bomb.
- BUMP gets teams racing to answer correctly, then gives them a chance to score points by knocking other teams off the platform.
- GRUDGEBALL turns review into a battle where correct answers earn cannon shots to sink opposing teams before they sink you.
Turning review into a game is one of my favorite ways to get students participating without making practice feel like more work. Students who normally sit back during review often jump into the action, working with their teammates and getting caught up in every question and result. Over time, that excitement carries beyond the game itself, as students start preparing because they want their team to have a better chance of winning next time.
The excitement is great, but the research is even better—educational games have been linked to stronger achievement, retention, and motivation. See the research.
