Explore 13 Principles of Government review games designed by a teacher to engage students and reinforce curriculum. Give students a break from worksheets and bring Social Studies review to life with a classroom game.

• The TERRIBLE Game rewards correct answers with positive or negative points that students can strategically assign to their own team or their opponents.
• Keep students on their toes with FRAZZLED, where every answer can reveal points, help the opposing team, or uncover a bomb that resets the score to zero.
• Get students moving with SCOOT, where they travel from desk to desk answering task cards and recording their answers along the way.
• BUMP gets teams racing to answer correctly, then gives them a chance to score points by knocking other teams off the platform.
• Turn review into a team competition with TRASHKETBALL™, where students answer questions, earn shots, and try to outscore the other teams.
• GRUDGEBALL turns review into a battle where correct answers earn cannon shots to sink opposing teams before they sink you.
• In The BIG TERRIBLE Game, every team answers every question and earns unpredictable positive or negative points while trying to finish closest to zero.

Review works a lot better when students actually want to participate, and games give them a reason to jump in. Students who normally sit back during review often jump into the action, working with their teammates and getting caught up in every question and result. Just like a team practices before a big game, students who know another review game is coming have a reason to prepare, because this time they really want to win.

There’s research behind the fun too, with studies finding better academic performance and greater student engagement when games are brought into learning. See the research.
