When it’s time to review, a little competition can go a long way toward getting students focused, participating, and having fun. Students who normally sit back during review often jump into the action, working with their teammates and getting caught up in every question and result. Play review games regularly and students start preparing for them, because just like sports, they know being ready gives them a better chance to win.

And it isn’t just something I’ve seen in my own classroom—research has found significant learning benefits from using educational games with students. See the research.
