Explore 7 Toleration & State Authority review games designed by a teacher to engage students and reinforce curriculum. Give students a break from worksheets and bring Social Studies review to life with a classroom game.
- Turn review into a team battle with BUMP, where correct answers earn shots and students can bump their opponents off the platform for extra points.
- TRASHKETBALL™ gets teams racing to answer correctly, then rewards them with shots at the trash can to score points.
- GRUDGEBALL turns review into a battle where correct answers earn cannon shots to sink opposing teams before they sink you.
- In The BIG TERRIBLE Game, every team answers every question and earns unpredictable positive or negative points while trying to finish closest to zero.
- The TERRIBLE Game adds strategy to review as correct answers uncover positive or negative points that can help your team or hurt your opponents.
- In FRAZZLED, teams answer questions to uncover mystery points, but one wrong answer or unlucky bomb can completely change the game.
- Get students moving with SCOOT, where they travel from desk to desk answering task cards and recording their answers along the way.
Turning review into a game is one of my favorite ways to get students participating without making practice feel like more work. Before long, students are cheering, discussing answers, and asking to play again—even when their team didn’t win. Once students know another game is coming, winning becomes a reason to pay attention, practice, and make sure they’re ready for the next one.
There’s research behind the fun too, with studies finding better academic performance and greater student engagement when games are brought into learning. See the research.
