Explore 7 Using Midpoints review games designed by a teacher to engage students and reinforce curriculum. Give students a break from worksheets and bring Math review to life with a classroom game.
- In The TERRIBLE Game, teams answer questions to reveal mystery scores, then decide who gets the points as everyone battles to finish closest to zero.
- Turn review into an unpredictable whole-class competition with The BIG TERRIBLE Game, where every answer can send a team’s score in the right or wrong direction.
- Turn review into a classroom battle with GRUDGEBALL, where correct answers earn attacks and successful baskets give teams extra shots at their opponents.
- TRASHKETBALL™ mixes fast-paced question review with a classroom shooting competition where correct answers earn shots for points.
- BUMP gets teams racing to answer correctly, then gives them a chance to score points by knocking other teams off the platform.
- SCOOT gets students out of their seats and moving around the classroom as they rotate from desk to desk answering task cards.
- Keep students on their toes with FRAZZLED, where every answer can reveal points, help the opposing team, or uncover a bomb that resets the score to zero.
Turning review into a game is one of my favorite ways to get students participating without making practice feel like more work. You’ll see students lean into the questions, debate answers with their teammates, and hang on every result as the game unfolds. Play review games regularly and students start preparing for them, because just like sports, they know being ready gives them a better chance to win.
And it isn’t just something I’ve seen in my own classroom—research has found significant learning benefits from using educational games with students. See the research.
