This game is TERRIBLE and the kids love it!

The TERRIBLE Game is a no-prep Algebra 1 review game where students earn points for answering correctly, but the points can be positive or negative, and you choose to assign them to your team or the opponents’ team!

The goal is to have the score closest to zero at the end of the game.

The game is playable with the whole class together, or you can play it in small groups. All questions and answers are included.

This version is:
School Level: High School
Subject: Algebra 1
Unit: Statistics & Probability
Mini-Unit: Measures Of Center
Topic: Range
Topic Description: Calculating the difference between maximum and minimum values.

It is a digital resource. No printouts are required. All questions and answers use text and mathematical notation (formulas), and there are no diagrams, maps, charts, graphics, or visual aids.

How It Works:

  • The game runs entirely on PowerPoint, and you can replace the questions and answers.
  • The goal is to finish the game closest to zero.
  • Make 2 teams and take turns answering questions.
  • Choose any question in any order.
  • If the answer is wrong, the turn moves to the other team with no points awarded.
  • If the answer is correct, tap a letter to see the points (positive or negative).
  • Then return to the game screen and add the positive or negative score to whichever team you want.
  • Closest to zero wins the game!

Questions vary in difficulty and the answer is provided after each question.

The game will run on:

  • iPads that run PowerPoint (free app)
  • Smartboards
  • Projectors
  • Desktops
  • Laptops
  • Any device that runs PowerPoint

This game can be played together as a class using a smartboard/projector, or it can be played by individuals and small groups on iPads or computers that run PowerPoint.

No additional licenses are required for the students in your class!

All of the images and colors are included exactly as shown. Each purchaser must obtain their own license, and the files may not be shared or resold. You are welcome to create as many customized versions as you like for your own classroom use.

Important Information

  • This game runs on PowerPoint and will not run on Google Slides.
  • A very small number of schools disable PowerPoint animations and hyperlinks.
  • If that happens, simply use another device such as a laptop or tablet running PowerPoint.
  • Here is a free tester game to see if your hyperlinks and animations work: The TERRIBLE Game Hyperlink & Animations Tester
